What Is Ad Rotation?

Ad rotation is the practice of changing the ads displayed on a website, usually with every new page load, to keep the ads fresh and dynamic so users don’t get bored with seeing the same ad over and over again. This can be an effective way to improve click-through rates (CTR) and keep users engaged with the site. However, it’s important to carefully consider which ads to rotate so that you don’t end up reducing the overall quality score.

Ad rotation can also help improve click-through rates (CTRs) by showing different ads to different people, as some ads may be more effective than others. Even so, you need to continue to optimize your Google Ads campaigns in every way like always checking search term reports and adding negative keywords, or checking auction insights updates.

How to Set Up Ad Rotation

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click Campaigns in the navigation panel.
  3. Click the campaign you’d like to change.
  4. Click Settings in the page menu.
  5. Click Additional settings
  6. Choose Ad rotation.
  7. Choose an ad rotation method: Optimize or Do not optimize.
  8. Click Save.

You can apply ad rotation both campaign level and ad group level.

Google Ads Rotation Options

In Google Ads, there are two main ad rotation options:

  • Rotate evenly
  • Optimize for clicks.
  1. Rotate evenly: This option evenly rotates all ads within an ad group over time. This can be useful for testing multiple ads and determining which ones perform best. With this option, all ads have an equal opportunity to be shown and receive clicks.
  2. Optimize for clicks: This option automatically shows the ad that is likely to receive the most clicks. Google Ads uses machine learning algorithms to determine which ad is likely to receive the most clicks based on factors such as ad relevance, historical performance, and audience engagement. With this option, the best-performing ad will be shown more often, increasing the chances of receiving more clicks and conversions.

It’s important to note that ad rotation options can be set at the ad group level and can be changed at any time. Advertisers can experiment with both options to determine which one works best for their advertising goals and adjust their ad rotation as needed.

Why You Should Try Ad Rotation

Ad rotation is a feature in Google Ads that allows you to automatically rotate your ads within an ad set. This can be useful in reducing ad fatigue and serving your audience fresh content. There are three different options for ad rotation: optimize for clicks, optimize for conversions, and rotate evenly. For most advertisers, the rotate evenly option is the best choice. This will show your ads for 90 days before refreshing them, giving you ample time to gather data and make decisions about which ads are performing the best so that you can have more accurate campaign performance analysis for your PPC marketing.

How to Increase CTR with Ad Rotation?

Ad rotation is the process of testing different ads within an ad group to see which performs the best. By rotating your ads, you can increase your click-through rate (CTR), which will in turn lower your cost-per-click (CPC)

To rotate your ads, simply go to the “Ads” tab in Google Ads and select “Ad Rotation.” From here, you can choose to rotate your ads evenly, or you can optimize for clicks or conversions.

If you’re just starting out, we recommend rotating your ads evenly. This will give each ad an equal chance to perform. Once you’ve collected enough data, you can then start optimizing for clicks or conversions!
